As well as editing and mixing in the studio I also do recordings out in the field. I've recently been the location sound recordist on several stand-up comedy shows for Radio 4 and BBC Sounds (via Made In Manchester Productions). Before carrying out the editing, mixing and post-production back in the studio. Seeing the project through from start to finish.

And while we're on the subject of OBs and location recordings, if you’re looking for someone to record in-quality interviews for your next production, just give me a shout! I’m based near Nottingham (but happy to travel) and very experienced in location recording for radio documentaries and podcasts.

Rather than just point a recorder at a subject and hope for the best (which is all too common) I use the correct type of mic for the situation, and know where to place it for optimum audio capture. I'm also in the habit of recording LOTS of actuality or 'B' roll footage at the location, to help give colour and paint a picture around the interview or feature. I firmly believe you can never record too much actuality!

The gear I use on location :

Zoom H6, Zoom F3, HHB Flashmic and Rode Interview Pro audio recorders.
Rode NTG2 and Sennheiser MD46 microphones.
Sony MDR-7506 and Beyer 770 Pro headphones.
